'Table Mountain' is primarily distinguished from species plants by its compact, flat-topped habit. It typically grows to only 16" tall and as wide. It is the result of a controlled cross-pollination that took place in Auckland, New Zealand in 1993 between Helianthus 'Golden Pyramid' (female) and Helianthus 'Autumn Queen' (male). Foliage is covered in late summer to early fall with a profuse bloom of 1.5-2" diameter sunflowers with golden yellow rays and brown center disks. Narrow, linear, rich green leaves (each to 3-4” long and to 3/8" wide) form an attractive foliage clump. U.S. Plant Patent Applied For (PPAF)2

"'Low Down' is best planted in a sheltered location in the St. Louis area where it may not be reliably winter hardy. Any seeds produced by this cultivar will reportedly be sterile.
‘Low Down’ is basically a scaled-down version (shorter plant, shorter leaves and smaller flowers) of Helianthus ‘First Light’. It produces a compact clump of foliage to only 12” tall by 16-20” wide. Foliage is covered in fall (September–October) with a profuse bloom of 2-2.5” diameter sunflowers with golden yellow rays and brown center disks. Narrow, hairy, linear leaves (to 3” long). Parents of this patented cultivar are unpatented H. salicifolia cultivars ‘Golden Pyramid’ and ‘Autumn Glory’. An introduction of Blooms of Bressingham. U.S. Plant Patent #13,197 issued November 5, 2002. Zone: 6 to 9"
