Hello,

Could someone tell me how and when you can make cuttings or root cuttings from Epimedium?
I allways devided a plant in a few parts , but i think nurseries take root cuttings to have uniform and small plants ,
i don't understand how they can have such small plants when you devide a large plant.
liebe grussen ,

According to my experience every piece of root with a vital bud will grow well as long as it has a minimum size of 5 cm.
I've recently taken a huge clump of Epimedium 'Orange Queen' apart to divide and replant it in different beds. It was a tangling mess of roots and I'm sure that every root remaining in the ground will start a new plant, though smaller varieties like for example Epimedium x youngianum 'Niveum' might be more sensitive in regard to division.
