Some helpful guidelines for this Group
Welcome to the HIPS IRIS id help Forum. We welcome you to post your photos of iris to get a possible identification. While many noids (non identified iris) will be impossible to ID; to give you the best chance at finding its name ,follow these suggestions.
First, tell us about the iris
Approximate Height
Tall bearded iris? dwarf? Some other kind of iris?
Does it have a fragrance?
Does it have PBF (purple based foliage)
Is it early, mid season or late? (compared to other iris)
Does it rebloom?
Where did you get it? Highly regarded vendor such as Schreiners, big box store like Home Depot, a passalong from granny? and when (approximate).
Anything else you find distinguishing you want to tell us.
Second - send us good photos. That means, bright or slightly overcast day, a mature bloom (not one just opening or starting to die) and no night shots, rain covered blooms or where the wind is blowing them around. Shots peering down into the iris are useless! Best shots are what I call 'mug shots' - one face forward, one from the side. Be as close to the iris as you can while getting the entire bloom in the picture. High quality photos which show haft marks, beard hairs, and texture veins are the best. Sometimes the same iris looks like a different color at a different time of day. If possible a shot at the alternate time of day may be helpful.
Remember that a name is only a suggestion. There are maybe 80,000 named iris in the world, many are gone with no photos, others may not even have a name to begin with. The only way to get 100% verification is to get the suggested named iris (or irises) and grow alongside yours to see if it is exactly the same.
.
