Bereits 1993 verkaufte Cox Rh.floribundum C.5020 und Rh.denudatum C.5090 beide gesammelt im Gebiet um Kangding 1990.Später schreibt Peter Cox in 'Seeds of Adventure'S.211:' "on the way to Luding we stopped at 2500m at a rather good place with what we thought might be R.denudatum but was only R.floribundum(C.5090).." Cox schreibt in 'Seeds of Adventure'S.281:"Yiziyakou Pass....Ted found one plant which none of us recognized, obviously related to Rh.floribundum but with wider rugulose leaves with floccose light brown indumentum.Later when we reached Yunnan,Dr.Yang said it was R.denudatum(CH7012).We will go into quandary over R.denudatum,R.floribundum and R.coeloneurum" ....and..."There is little doubt from our observations on the trip and on seedlings in cultivation that Rhododendron floribundum,R.denudatum and R.coeloneurum are closely related, despite the last having placed in subsection Talensia....All three species would be better placed together in subsection Argyrophylla and possibly R.denudatum should be sunk into R.floribundum."
